BATAVIA, Ill. (AP) - A former suburban fire department lieutenant has pleaded guilty to felony aggravated battery against his wife and was placed on probation for two years.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald ( https://bit.ly/1OQ8nFg ) reports that Ralph A. Strange of Batavia was originally charged with the more serious charge of aggravated domestic battery after an August 2015 incident in which the woman suffered a broken nose and fractured orbital bone. On Friday, he pleaded guilty to the reduced charge.

Strange was placed on administrative leave after the August incident and later resigned.

Strange’s plea comes six years after he was arrested in Kane County on a domestic violence charge. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor battery.

Strange doesn’t have a listed phone number and could not be reached for comment.
