WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) - The fight to prevent the impending opening of a cigar bar in Westerly will resume this week before the southern Rhode Island city’s licensing board.

The Westerly Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1lJEkXr ) the board will resume a hearing Monday concerning Vintage LLC’s application for a Class C bar license to open Vintage Cigar Lounge & Club on High Street.

The hearing was opened on Jan. 14 but was tabled because Solicitor Matthew Oliverio wasn’t present.

Tenants renting space above the proposed cigar bar have filed formal objects arguing that smoke and its odor will travel up into their offices.

William Nardone, an attorney representing Vintage LLC, says the bar will be outfitted with a state-of-the-art air purification and cleansing system.

The proposed cigar bar has already received approval from the zoning board.
