POWNAL, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man and woman are accused of neglecting a 2-year-old boy who was found by police in a trailer standing in animal waste and smelling of stale urine.

State police received an anonymous call on Sunday about the boy. The caller said there was no heat, water or food.

Police said conditions in the Pownal trailer were consistent with that description, and some areas were blocked by trash.

The state Department of Child and Family Services took custody of the child.

Arrested on a charge of cruelty to a child are Karen Mattison and Timothy Susee Jr., both 24. They were scheduled to appear in court Monday.

It wasn’t immediately known if they had lawyers. A phone message was left at a number believed to be connected to Mattison; a number wasn’t found for Susee.
