CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) - Caldwell officials say the city has laid the groundwork for growth, as the number of new and planned businesses continues to increase.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1QugjRa ) plans for the city include a new retail shopping center, movie theater, hotels and an industrial building expected to attract a major employer. Mayor Garret Nancolas says the city of 50,000 people will also be getting its first Starbucks location.

Caldwell leaders and economic development specialists have focused on getting residents to spend their money in the city, and not outside Caldwell for retail and entertainment.

Nancolas says the recent growth is a result of efforts to attract more businesses. He says the city has prepared necessary infrastructure, created an incentive package for businesses and improved the look of the downtown area.
