RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - Officials say a $6 million project to renovate and expand Rutland Regional Medical Center’s emergency department will begin sometime next month.

The Rutland Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1PwyoZI ) the expansion will increase the size of the emergency department by almost 15 percent by adding 1,840 square feet of space and seven new treatment rooms.

After the renovation, the emergency department will have 26 rooms for patient treatment.

The project is expected to take up to 18 months to complete. The department will remain open during construction.

RRMC President and CEO Tom Huebner says a capital campaign isn’t necessary for the project because the hospital has already set aside funding for the renovation.

Huebner says aspects of the project will also make the emergency department more efficient and help improve work flow.
