CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A group of African-American state lawmakers, community group leaders and pastors are signing on to promote Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto’s Senate campaign in the black community.

Her campaign announced Monday that it had assembled an “African Americans for Cortez Masto” coalition that would help with get-out-the-vote activities and spread the word about the former Nevada attorney general in the media and among black voters.

The committee includes Democratic state legislators Aaron Ford, Dina Neal, Pat Spearman, Kelvin Atkinson, Tyrone Thompson and Harvey Munford.

It also includes pastors Robert Fowler and Christopher Brown II, as well as other community group leaders.

Cortez Masto served two terms as attorney general. She’s vying for the seat held by retiring Sen. Harry Reid, and faces a competitive race against three-term Republican Rep. Joe Heck.
