HOUMA, La. (AP) - Agencies in Terrebonne Parish collected less sales tax money in 2015 compared to the previous year.

Overall, parish tax collections fell 6.8 percent from 2014 to 2015.

The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/23nCddZ) the parish Sales and Use Tax Department, which collects taxes for the parish government, Sheriff’s Office, School Board and Levee and Conservation District, compiled records through the end of the year.

The parish government collected $3.4 million in sales tax revenues in December 2015, down 10.8 percent from the $3.8 million collected in December 2014. Sales tax collections for the year were down 12.4 percent.

Officials have long linked the fall in sales taxes to the plunge in oil prices.
