LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police have arrested immigrant-rights demonstrators who blocked an intersection near the downtown Los Angeles Federal Building.

Several dozen protesters linked hands Tuesday while lying on the pavement, and others formed a circle around them.

Police ordered the crowd to disperse, and many did. Those who remained were taken into custody on suspicion of unlawful assembly. Officials didn’t immediately know how many arrests were made.

Organizers said in a press release they would be demanding a stop to deportation of Central American immigrant families and recognition that they are refugees seeking asylum.
