NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (dih BLAH’-zee-oh) is set to campaign for Hillary Clinton in Iowa.

Aides to the mayor said Tuesday that he and his wife would spend four days campaigning for Clinton, a fellow Democrat.

He will return to New York on Feb. 2, the day after Iowa’s caucus, the first step in the presidential nominating process.

De Blasio was Clinton’s campaign manager during her successful 2000 Senate bid.

But he initially delayed endorsing her, finally doing so six months after she announced her campaign.

De Blasio gave a speech in Iowa last year on income inequality. He also planned to hold a candidates’ forum there last month but canceled when no candidates committed to attending.

Clinton is locked in a tight race with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
