HORICON, N.Y. (AP) - State police say they’ve recovered the body of a man who drowned after he fell into an Adirondack lake while snowshoeing at night.

Trooper say 66-year-old Edward Vandecar of Schroon (skroon) Lake in Essex County was reported missing Wednesday. A search was launched by troopers, state forest rangers and members of the local department.

Police say the search resumed Thursday morning, when a trooper spotted snowshoe prints leading from the Horicon State Boat Launch on Schroon Lake’s southern end to an area of open water on the section of the lake in neighboring Warren County.

Officials say a state police helicopter spotted Vandecar’s body in the water and it was recovered by forest rangers.

The Warren County coroner determined he drowned.
