LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Dona Ana County officials say they’ve settled a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against the county treasurer for $68,000.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports (https://bit.ly/1ntdap4) that the settlement will be paid to Treasurer David Gutierrez’ former employee, Luz Nunez. Nunez filed the lawsuit in December, saying Gutierrez harassed her at work and later offered her money for sex.

The complaint says Nunez rejected the offer but didn’t report the incident out of fear of losing her job.

Gutierrez admitted during a county personnel investigation that he offered Nunez $1,000 to spend time with him in a hotel room. He later acknowledged that it was a sexual proposition.

County commissioners have voted to formally reprimand Gutierrez but don’t have the authority to force an elected official out of his post.
