GRUNDY COUNTY, Iowa (AP) - The death of a Grundy County inmate has been ruled a suicide after county officials found the man unresponsive in a jail cell.

A Department of Public Safety news release says officials with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office found an inmate who was unresponsive in a jail cell shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation identified the man as 26-year-old Jared Martin Slinker of Wellsburg.

He was taken into custody Jan. 26 on an arrest warrant for contempt of court regarding a child endangerment charge.

An autopsy was conducted Friday and determined the death to be a suicide by hanging. Toxicology results are still pending.
