DENVER (AP) - Authorities have released the name of an off-duty Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy who was shot during an attempted robbery in Aurora.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/h9jNwT ) Deputy Jose Marquez was seriously injured Tuesday night in an apartment complex parking lot when he exchanged gunfire with a 16-year-old suspect, who was shot in the leg. Sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer says Marquez is recovering well after a second surgery Wednesday.

The deputy remains in intensive care.

Marquez was visiting his girlfriend when two armed suspects approached him with their guns drawn. He was shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen before the suspects ran away.

The injured teen has been arrested, and police are still looking for the other suspect.
