PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A Maine man has been sentenced to more than a year in prison in connection with the unsolved fatal shooting of his former girlfriend in 2010.

The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1nDvInd ) that 27-year-old Cory Girard of Yarmouth was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Thursday in a Portland courtroom. He pleaded guilty in October to illegally having a pistol in the apartment where he and Darien Richardson were shot on Jan. 8, 2010.

Authorities said Girard played no direct role in the shooting that led to Richardson’s death. But authorities have said the shooting was related to Girard’s business as a drug dealer.

Girard said in court that he’s turned his life around since Richardson’s death.
