FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A North Texas man has been sentenced to 55 years in prison after a jury convicted him of murdering his 3-year-old daughter.

The Tarrant County jury chose not to find Robert Marquis Lamar Williams guilty of capital murder, opting Friday for a murder conviction instead. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram (https://bit.ly/1QyaVL5) reports the judge then passed sentence.

Williams, who’s now 28, was arrested in April 2013 after daughter Anastasia Williams found dead in her bedroom three weeks previously.

Evidence showed the day before she was found dead, Anastasia was crying in her room when her father went in, slammed the door, and thumps and thuds were heard for 30 to 45 seconds.

The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide, caused by an injury to her abdomen that lacerated her liver.
