SEATTLE (AP) - A one-night count of homeless people in Seattle and King County found their numbers are growing.

In Seattle, volunteers counted nearly 3,000 people sleeping outside early on Friday morning. That’s a 5 percent increase since last January’s count. The number of unsheltered people counted in King County increased by 19 percent to just over 4,500 people.

More than a thousand volunteers participated in this year’s homeless count.
