SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) - Crews have begun demolishing Pangburn Hall on the Black Hills State University campus in Spearfish.

University Facility Services Director Randy Culver tells The Black Hills Pioneer (https://bit.ly/1KK3NGS ) that the building was in a “state of disrepair” and the school sought Board of Regents permission to tear it down.

Pangburn Hall was built as a dormitory in 1952. It also at times has housed classrooms, a dining facility, a small theater and a photography studio. A new dorm, Crow Peak Hall, opened this school year.

The demolition project is expected to be complete by the end of February. Officials plan to landscape the area and build a walking and biking path.
