HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) - Police are searching for the motorist responsible for severely injuring two pedestrians in a hit-and-run crash in Hamden.

The accident took place shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Robert Street.

Police say the driver briefly stopped after striking the two victims before fleeing southbound on Dixwell Avenue.

The victims were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital in serious condition. Their identities are being withheld pending the notification of family members.

Police say the suspect was described as a black male approximately 5‘8” tall. He was driving an older model Saturn or Nissan Altima that was painted either red or orange.

An investigation is ongoing.
