RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael N. Herring says he has begun reviewing the possible overlap between a city official’s work and construction at the church at which Mayor Dwight C. Jones is senior pastor.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1m0f1k5) reports that City Auditor Umesh Dalal concluded in a Jan. 5 report that the city’s Director of Public Works Emmanuel O. Adediran spent 38 hours of city time on conference calls related to the construction of a new facility for First Baptist Church of South Richmond.

Earlier this month, Herring had initially assessed that the matter was “not likely to lead to a formal criminal investigation.”

Herring declined to comment further on the nature of his review Thursday, but said it is distinct from the review Jones had already requested the Virginia State Police undertake.
