PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota woman has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the stabbing death of a man last year.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley on Friday said 27-year-old Oacoma resident Whitney Renae Turney has entered her guilty plea.

Authorities allege that Turney stabbed Calvin Shields to death on Sept. 4 in Oacoma. Shields’ body was discovered three days later.

Turney is scheduled to be sentenced March 23 in Kennebec. The charge of first-degree manslaughter carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
