CHICAGO (AP) - A 36-year-old Chicago man was found dead in the basement of a two-story house on the city’s West Side after a fire broke out.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has identified the victim as Travis Johnson.

Fire crews responding to the call about 9:45 p.m. Saturday reported moderate smoke coming from the home. Johnson was found in the basement and taken to Loretto Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:15 p.m.

An autopsy is scheduled.

Fire officials said the building is uninhabitable, leaving two adults and two children without a home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire officials say the fire started in the basement.
