LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Liberty University has bought a small airport in Bedford County for $1.8 million.

Assistant provost of aeronautics education Dave Young told The News and Advance (https://bit.ly/1PFb131 ) that Liberty doesn’t yet have specific plans for the New London Airport.

Young says the airport will remain open to general aviation.

The airport shares space with the New London Dragway. The track’s operator, Kelley Powell, says it will go forward with its 2016 schedule.

Powell says the track looks forward to having a long-term relationship with Liberty.

New London Dragway was built two years before the airport opened in 1958.
