SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a teenage girl has died from injuries she suffered in a New Year’s Day crash on a central New Jersey highway.

The 13-year-old was one of eight people hurt in the two-vehicle accident on Route 1 in South Brunswick. She died late Saturday at a hospital, and her name has not been released.

Two other people injured in the crash remained hospitalized Sunday in critical condition. The other five were treated at hospitals and have since been released.

Authorities have said a minivan and a car collided around 5:15 a.m. on Route 1 near Deans Lane.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. But authorities have said the car driver may have been distracted by a cellphone and ran a red light at a jughandle.
