BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Fire officials in Bridgeport say a young child has died in a condo fire that also injured five other people.

Bridgeport fire officials responded to a call of a fire at a condo complex on Frenchtown Road around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Fire Chief Brian Rooney told the Connecticut Post (https://bit.ly/1kCTIo5 ) that a 3-year-old girl died in the blaze that may have begun in the kitchen of the home and spread to the second floor.

The injured residents were taken to Bridgeport Hospital. A spokesman said they were suffering from burns and smoke inhalation but were expected to recover.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.

This story has been corrected with fire official saying child who died was 3-years-old, not 18 months as police said previously.
