PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s health insurance exchange says it’s expanding its call center hours this weekend to ensure Rhode Islanders have the chance to sign up for coverage before the open enrollment deadline.

The HealthSource RI call center will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, the day the annual open enrollment period ends.

The call center expanded its hours last weekend after downed telephone lines during the week may have prevented people from enrolling.

Failure to enroll could result in a federal tax penalty for not having coverage in 2016.
