TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - The Toledo Zoo in northwest Ohio is welcoming the birth of a new polar bear cub.

Zoo officials announced Thursday that the cub was born Dec. 3 to a 16-year-old bear named Crystal. The cub hasn’t been named and its gender hasn’t yet been determined.

It’s the seven polar bear cub born at the zoo since 2006. Crystal gave birth to twins in November 2012.

The cub is currently secluded in a den with its mother. Zoo officials haven’t said when Crystal and the cub will make their public debut. Polar bear cubs in the wild typically stay secluded with their mothers until they reach 20 to 30 pounds.
