NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed in Manhattan by a drunk driver who fled the scene.

The accident happened at 4:15 a.m. Saturday in Washington Heights.

Police say a 46-year-old man was hit by a black BMW. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately released.

Police say the car also hit a 46-year-old woman. She is hospitalized in stable condition.

Police say the driver of the BMW fled the scene and returned a short time later.

Thirty-four-year-old Jonathan Segura, of the Bronx, was arrested on charges including driving while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.

It wasn’t clear if Segura had an attorney who could speak for him.
