PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The state has launched a new website to help residents shop for the best electricity rates for their homes and businesses.

Lt. Gov. Daniel McKee and Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers Administrator Thomas Ahern say Empower RI will include a savings calculator based on kilowatt usage.

The site allows business and residential customers to compare electricity rates and contract terms from National Grid and competitive suppliers.

McKee and Ahern say the site will make selecting a competitive electricity supplier easier and more transparent in Rhode Island, a state with high energy costs.

McKee says ratepayers should be empowered to make the most cost-effective decisions about their electricity supplier.

The website can be found at www.ri.gov/empowerri.
