DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - Dubuque County Supervisor Tom Hancock, who also served in the Iowa Senate, has died at the age of 67.

Fellow county Supervisor Daryl Klein told the Dubuque Telegraph Herald (bit.ly/1KQ0fD6) the sheriff and Hancock’s wife told him Hancock died early Sunday.

Hancock served with the Epworth Fire Department for 45 years, including 16 years as chief. He also served in the Senate for eight years and was a former president of the Iowa Firefighters Association.

Epworth Fire Chief Tom Berger says Hancock led a group of volunteers to complete paramedic training in the 1980s, and the department was one of the first rural ones to earn certification in advanced life support.

Iowa Senate President Pam Jochum says Hancock was a good public servant and man of his word.
