WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - A Houston-based development company says it hopes to start preliminary work on a 55,000-barrel diesel refinery site in the next two months and begin construction by this summer.

The Bismarck Tribune (https://bit.ly/1nDyJDT ) reports Meridian Energy Group Inc. still needs to summit a zoning application to the Billings County Planning and Zoning Commission. The proposed site would be between Fryburg and Belfield.

Fred Bloom, Meridian’s vice president of business development, said it’s possible zoning could be accomplished within two weeks and the company could start site prep.

He said the plan is to begin construction on the refinery this summer and be selling diesel within two years.

Bloom said low oil prices are a good market to build into, creating potentially greater profit for the diesel product.
