POLK, Neb. (AP) - Health officials are taking precautions after a eastern Nebraska teen died from an apparent case of meningitis.

The Grand Island Independent reports (https://bit.ly/1Q1qrfE ) anyone who had close contact with the teen beforehand will be giving antibiotics as a precaution, but officials are not yet sure what type of meningitis the student had.

The teen was a student at High Plains Community Schools in Polk, Nebraska, before dying on Thursday. The student, who was a sophomore, wasn’t identified by officials.

School officials say the Central District Health Department isn’t treating this as a meningitis outbreak at this time.
