PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island General Assembly is gearing up to debate a new truck toll proposal by Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo and several competing bills.

The House Finance Committee will hold a hearing Thursday about the recently revised proposal from Raimondo and Democratic legislative leaders.

The bill would toll large commercial trucks to help finance bridge and road repairs. It includes a provision prohibiting tolls on passenger vehicles.

Several related infrastructure funding bills are also up for debate.

One bill would create a restricted-receipt account to finance bridge repairs and another would create a public-private transportation partnership board.

Independent Rep. Blake Filippi, from Block Island, introduced a bill that would put a question on the ballot asking voters for a constitutional amendment to restrict passenger tolls.
