AVONDALE, La. (AP) - Officials say a 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with death of a Bridge City man who was shot early New Year’s Day in Avondale.

In a news release, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office says Michael Ennis of Avondale was charged with first-degree murder in 32-year-old Joseph Washington’s death.

Sheriff Newell Normand says Washington was killed after being shot multiple times Friday while he stood talking to a friend outside her car.

The sheriff’s office says Ennis was also booked on possession of stolen things in an unrelated investigation, as well as two attachments for failure to appear in court.

It isn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
