COLDSPRINGS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 17-year-old boy has died after the snowmobile he was riding crashed into a tree in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula.

The crash happened Sunday in Kalkaska County’s Coldsprings Township. The sheriff’s department says the boy is identified as Jacob Schaedler of Tecumseh.

Authorities say he wasn’t wearing a helmet and died at the scene. According to investigators, speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.
