DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (AP) - Dauphin Island is planning its annual Mardi Gras parade — the first parade of the season in south Alabama.

The parade is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday in the Gulf coast community.

Dauphin Island Mayor Jeff Collier says the parade attracts up to 40,000 people to the island town, partly because it traditionally begins the parade season in Mobile and Baldwin counties.

Dauphin Island is about 35 miles south of Mobile.
