CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - A Virginia man, known locally as the “Running Man,” has died after being struck by a vehicle.

Media outlets report 55-year-old Philip Weber III died Tuesday morning. Albemarle County police say Weber was running when he was hit by a SUV in Charlottesville. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Those who knew Weber say his daily runs were an important part of his life. He ran about 100 miles a week, and roughly 5,000 miles a year. People in the community would recognize the frequently shirtless Weber by his short-shorts and memorable facial hair.

Following Weber’s death, hundreds of people have taken to social media, expressing their sadness, as well as their memories of him.

No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
