SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Wildlife officers in Utah have euthanized a mountain lion that reportedly killed one dog and wounded another.

Scott Root of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources says a Summit Park resident found Sunday morning that Casper, her black Labrador Retriever-Pointer mix, was wounded. Her other dog, Maizy the Australian shepherd, was missing.

Root says wildlife officers found the cougar under the deck of a neighbor’s home, lying on top of the body of the woman’s missing dog.

Root says officers killed the cougar with a shotgun.

He says the predators follow deer to lower elevations in the winter and that mountain lion sightings come with the territory when living in a mountain community like Summit Park.
