PHILADELPHIA (AP) - An off-duty police officer and one other person have been hospitalized after a restaurant caught fire in Philadelphia.

The blaze broke out around 6 p.m. Sunday at a Chinese restaurant. Police say the fire was put under control shortly thereafter.

Firefighters were met with heavy flames and smoke. It took them about an hour to knock down the fire.

An off-duty Philadelphia Police Officer was hurt while trying to help at the scene. That officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

A civilian was also injured. That person’s condition is unclear.
