NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey authorities are investigating the death of a 75-year-old Newark man who was walking across a city street when he was hit by a car.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray says the man was trying to cross Bloomfield Avenue at the intersection with Mt. Prospect Avenue when he was struck about 6 p.m. Sunday. He was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly says the man’s name wasn’t being released, pending notification of his family.

Fennelly says the driver remained at the scene. No charges had been filed.
