PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Five elementary school students were hurt when their school bus collided with a utility van in Providence.

The injuries to the children from Feinstein Elementary on Broad Street and the driver of a third car were not considered life-threatening.

Providence Fire Chief William Kenyon says the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Monday. The other vehicles were a National Grid van and passenger car.

The children were taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, while the car driver was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Kenyon says about 20 children were on the bus. A school department spokeswoman did not immediately return a message.

Police are investigating.

A National Grid spokesman says the company is looking into the collision and referred further questions to police.
