SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A search and rescue team in Utah recently saved a disoriented man who lost one of his snowshoes while out hiking.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team says they used a helicopter to get a 24-year-old Texan down from a mountain on Sunday evening. The trapped snowshoer had been exploring the Fernwood Recreation Site in Layton.

He fell about 100 feet to the bottom of a ravine around 4 p.m. and called his family in Texas for help.

Family members called Utah emergency workers, who used the GPS unit on the man’s phone to find him.

Davis County Search and Rescue team member Erik Bornemeier says the man was taken to the hospital for an evaluation but didn’t have any serious injuries.
