GRASS LAKE, Mich. (AP) - A fire has caused severe damage at an 89-year-old church in southern Michigan.

The Rev. Scott Runyon says he and six members were in a Bible study Wednesday morning when they noticed black smoke. Within 10 minutes, the Federated Church of Grass Lake was evacuated along with its fellowship hall.

No injuries were reported but the church is badly damaged. The fire could be related to a furnace. Grass Lake is 30 miles west of Ann Arbor.

Runyon tells the Jackson Citizen Patriot (https://bit.ly/1O5zUV9 ) that two churches already have offered space or assistance. He says the support “feels really good.”

Jerry Ambrus, a 30-year member of the church, was the last to leave the building. He says, “I just hate to see” the damage.
