GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - A Gillette woman is charged with first-degree murder in the weekend shooting death of her husband.

Court records say 53-year-old Deborah Johnson called police at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday to report she had shot 48-year-old Brian Johnson in the chest. Charging documents say she told officers he wouldn’t stop nagging her and that she had choked him earlier “just to shut him up.”

The Gillette News Record reports (https://bit.ly/1UwOBSG ) Johnson made an initial appearance in Circuit Court on Tuesday, where her bail was set at $500,000. Johnson said she was confused and wanted to talk to an attorney. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 12.

Johnson was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, but prosecutors upgraded the charge after learning Johnson went down to the basement, loaded the rifle, disengaged the safety and shot her husband.
