DANIELSVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A 29-year-old Danielsville man has been accused of taking advantage of a woman with dementia.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Doug Martin tells the Athens Banner-Herald ( ) that Richard Lee Gositt cashed a check from the woman - who is in her 80s - for $3,900, saying it was for tree work.

Martin says there is no evidence that tree work was ever performed. Gositt has been charged with financial exploitation of the elderly under the elderly abuse statute.

Investigators were alerted to the case after receiving a complaint from the daughter of the woman.

It is unclear whether Gositt has an attorney who could comment on the charge.
