PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to commit an armed home invasion.

United States Attorney Peter Neronha says 45-year-old Emmett Blyden was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court on charges of robbery conspiracy and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Prosecutors say Blyden and 44-year-old Allen Prout, of Providence, took possession of firearms they intended to use to rob a Providence house where they believed drugs and cash were stored.

They were arrested June 6, 2014, shortly after getting the firearms.

Prout pleaded guilty in October to robbery conspiracy and firearm possession charges. He’s scheduled to be sentenced in February.

Blyden’s attorney couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

Blyden was also sentenced to three years supervised release.
