CHICAGO (AP) - A professor at a suburban Chicago Christian college who asserted Christians and Muslims worship the same God is planning to discuss plans by the college to fire her.

Wheaton College says Provost Stanton Jones initiated termination-for-cause proceedings against Larycia Hawkins after she refused to participate in “clarifying conversations” about theological issues.

Hawkins, a Christian and an associate professor of political science, began wearing a hijab to counter what she called “vitriolic” rhetoric against Muslims. She told reporters last month that her actions “were motivated by a desire to live out my faith.”

Hawkins, who was placed on administrative leave last month, says she will speak Wednesday about the college’s decision to dismiss her.

Spokeswoman Shelly Ruziicka said Tuesday despite the college’s plans, Hawkins “maintains Christian support for the Muslim community.”
