NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A vacant hotel property in New Orleans is set to be torn down to make way for new retail development.

New Orleans CityBusiness reports (bit.ly/1OC51ck) the Neighborhood Conservation District Advisory Committee voted to approve demolition this week of the former America’s Best Value Inn. The vacant hotel is about a block from the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court building.

The property has been vacant since 2011 when a fire in one of the rooms caused severe damage to the roof and most of the second and third floors.
