BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Beaufort County sheriff’s deputies say a woman’s body has been found in a shallow grave near Burton and the death is linked to the death of a man last month.

The sheriff’s office issued a news release saying that the remains of the woman were found about midday Wednesday.

Authorities say an investigation into the death of a man who was found burned inside a vehicle in nearby Yemassee last month led investigators to the grave.

The man has not been identified. Authorities say an autopsy should help determine the identity of the woman and the cause of her death.

The death is being treated as a homicide. The State Law Enforcement Division is assisting in the investigation.
