TULSA, Okla. (AP) - U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro is announcing funds to help homeless Native American veterans.

The federal agency says Castro will announce the award Friday during the winter meeting of the Inter-Tribal Council of the Five Civilized Tribes in Tulsa.

The award is part of a federal plan launched in 2010 by President Barack Obama that aims to prevent and end homelessness.

The plan, called Opening Doors, partners the government with private and philanthropic groups with the goal of investing in programs that end veteran homelessness.
