KATY, Texas (AP) - A man and his wife have been found shot to death inside their Southeast Texas home in what authorities say appears to be a murder-suicide.

Authorities say the 49-year-old man and 39-year-old woman were found dead Wednesday after Harris County sheriff’s deputies did a welfare check at the home in Katy, just west Houston.

Sgt. Ben Beall of the Harris County sheriff’s office tells the Houston Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1ISD3Zj ) the bodies were in a bedroom. A gun was found nearby.

Detectives haven’t said who they believe to be the shooter.

Beall says deputies went to the house after the dead man sent his wife’s ex-husband a text instructing him to pick up his 14-year-old daughter from the home.

Deputies say the teen was at school at the time of the shooting.
